Some Inspiration...for this blog

On the day of my son's Upanayanam we decided to have a chamber music by S.P.Prabahakaran my flute master. He wanted me to play with him.. but I politely (the real reason --- how am i supposed to play in front of familiar audience) declined saying that I would have run out of energy on that day. He commenced his performance.. and I could barely restrain the temptation to join him and I did...that was my first experience of playing with violin and mridhangam..and it was awesome. (It started off with Kanada Varnam..Mahaganapathe ..Natai..Kamakshi swarjathi..Bhairavi...Entahro Mahanu Bahavulu...Simehdramadhyama and the Shyama..Manasa Sancharare

Later one day Ramaa and Rajesh came up with an idea of musical concert for selected audience (mostly family) and arranged one on the evening were 10th Oct 2009. and this was to be followed by dinner.
The artistes (I think I would call them vidhwans -- as they are well on their way in becoming one)  where I was the official photographer ;)

It was a violin duet with mridhangam and kanjira.
On violin were Shankar and Srinidhi, accompanied by Bhargava and Karthik on Mridhngam and kanjira

The concert began with
Bhairavi...Viribhoni...those who know me will also know how much I like it. It is I would say the emperor of varnams.
It was followed by Vatahapi Ganapathim---hamsadhwani...by Dikhitar..(on the Mahaganapathi who was installed at  Tiruchagatankudi in TN (a village) by Chirutondar Nayanmar from the Vatapi fort (then commander in chief of Narasimha varaman-I Pallavan)after the war against Pullikeshi-- of Vatapi was won by Narasimha varman )
This was followed by Manaviyala by Thyagaraja--- in Nalinakanthimathi...one of the ragas that ususally pull me out of the materialistic world..
Next to come was Entharo Mahanu Bahavulu.. in Sri..Thyagaraj's composition in the honour of people belonging to the world of Music, Bhakthi and Gyana.  It is one of THE Pancharatnams. and I dont think I can add any words to its description that will add value to it.

The next rendition was the Vasudevayani....Kalyani...commenced with aalapana..followed by Nereval and Swaram with Thani avartham (Sogosuga Mridhanga Thalamu..words of Thyagaraja can never go wrong!)(Can one forget the rendition by MMI)
Next was Devadeva Kalayamithe in Mayamalavagowla by Swathi Thirunal
The Jagadhodhaarna...in Kapi... by Purandaradasa. Can one forget this rendition by MSS and if I were from the earler generation I would also add the dance performanace Kumari Kamala (heard so much about this from my mother)
This was followed by the evergreen upbeat  Thillana...by Swathi Thirunal
Next was a surprise  Bhagyada Lakshmi Bharamma ...in Madhyamavathi by  Purandaradasa
With the traditional conclusion of the concert with Mangalam

Three cheers to the performers! and ofcourse  to the organisers. Thus this evening I was inspired to start a blog for music

Not sure how I missed it till now . So starting this blog for Music, with post on Carnatic music.
